Service Organization Control (Financial Reporting) Audit

SOC 1 Certification & Audit Consultancy in India

SOC 1 (SSAE 18) reports are required by Indian IT, BPO, payroll, data processing and financial services companies that handle transactions affecting their US clients' financial reporting. User auditors and US regulators rely on SOC 1 to assess internal controls over financial reporting. We provide SOC 1 readiness and attestation support across India.

Overview

What is SOC 1?

A SOC 1 report (System and Organization Controls 1) provides an independent assessment of a service organization's internal controls relevant to user entities' financial reporting (ICFR). Governed by SSAE 18, it comes in two types: Type I (design of controls at a point in time) and Type II (operating effectiveness over a period, typically 6–12 months).

  • BPOs handling accounts payable, receivable or financial transactions

  • Custody and transfer agents in financial services

Readiness Assessment

We test the design and operating effectiveness of your controls and identify gaps that would result in qualified opinions or exceptions in the SOC 1 report.

03

Remediation & Evidence Collection

We help remediate control gaps, establish evidence collection processes, and prepare all documentation for the CPA firm's audit.

04

CPA Firm Coordination

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions — SOC 1 in India

Type I reports on the design of controls at a specific point in time. Type II reports on both design and operating effectiveness over a period (typically 6–12 months). US clients almost always require Type II for ongoing assurance.

SOC 1 focuses on controls relevant to user entities' financial reporting (ICFR). SOC 2 focuses on security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy (Trust Services Criteria). Many Indian IT companies need both.

The observation period is typically 6–12 months. Add 3–4 months for readiness assessment and reporting. Plan 9–15 months from start to final report.

SOC 1 must be performed by a licensed US CPA firm. We partner with PCAOB-registered CPA firms experienced with Indian service organizations and coordinate the entire engagement on your behalf.
